It isn’t every day that Steph Curry sees one of his shooting records broken, but that’s exactly what happened on Friday night.
Sabrina Ionescu stole the show during the WNBA three-point contest in Las Vegas, putting in the best-ever showing in the competition by a WNBA or NBA player.
After missing her first shot in the final round, the 25-year-old electrified the crowd by sinking 20 straight efforts and finishing with a record 37 out of a possible 40 points to win the contest.
The points tally shattered the previous record set by Curry in 2021 and Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton from earlier this year, which stood at 31.
“Shouldn’t have missed two,” Ionescu said. “It was the final round. I had just lost in the skills. I wasn’t going to lose again.”
Curry heaps praise on Ionescu
The performance wasn’t lost on Curry, who praised Ionescu on social media.
“RIDICULOUS!” Curry tweeted at Ionescu.
The 25-year-old also showed her reverence for Curry by imitating his famous lights-out pose while holding her newly won trophy.
