Jason Statham has already cemented his place in the action genre hall of fame, but he is further established as Sylvester Stallone’s successor with his new role in an upcoming action series. Jason Statham is best known for movies like The Mechanic, Spy, the Fast and Furious franchise, and the Transporter trilogy. He has also collaborated with several big names in the action movie industry, including Stallone, with whom he partnered several times, such as The Expendables and its sequels, and 2013’s Homefront, and he’s bound to do it again with a new movie.
Sylvester Stallone has his place as one of the biggest action stars in the world, proving his worth with a number of movies and franchises throughout his almost five-decade career. Some of his biggest roles were in the Rocky and Rambo film series, and although Stallone’s current roles don’t include as many hit films, he is still acting in different movies and new franchises. He’s been involved in production and screenwriting, and he will be a big part of Jason Statham’s upcoming movie, passing the torch to latter as his successor.
Jason Statham’s Next Action Movie Was Written By Sylvester Stallone
Jason Statham’s New Movie Is Levon’s Trade
Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone shared the screen in 2023’s The Expendables 4, but, given the latter’s reduced role, they didn’t get to share many scenes together. However, the duo will partner again for Jason Statham’s upcoming action film, Levon’s Trade, where Stallone will serve as a screenwriter. At the time of publication, Stallone isn’t connected to any role in the movie. The action film will have David Ayer at the helm, with whom Jason Statham recently collaborated for the upcoming movie The Beekeeper, an action film about a former operative of a powerful clandestine operation and his quest to find revenge after a friend’s death.
Their collaboration has the potential of further proving Jason Statham is worthy to be Sylvester Stallone’s successor. For now, Levon’s Trade is planned as a solo movie; however, it is based on the Levon Cade series by comic writer Chuck Dixon, which includes 11 books. That might mean that, if the first one turns out to be successful, Statham, Ayer, and Stallone could create a new, long-lasting franchise, giving Statham a new, career-defining role, like Stallone had with Rocky and Rambo.
Stallone Previously Set Statham As His Rambo & Expendables Successor
Statham Could Have His Own Expendables Spinoff
Jason Statham’s 2013 movie Homefront is based on Chuck Logan’s novel of the same title, but that wasn’t always the plan. Stallone, who wrote the screenplay, initially planned Homefront to be Rambo 4. Statham wasn’t really meant to step in Stallone’s shoes and become the new Rambo, so it all worked out in its own way. After Stallone realized the new story with Rambo as a DEA agent with a young daughter would not sound plausible, he rewrote the script, this time with Statham in mind after their collaboration on The Expendables movies.
Stallone also intended to pass the torch of The Expendables franchise to Statham. Stallone, alongside other big names from the previous installments, had limited roles in the last movie, leaving Statham to take the leading role and the opportunity of his own spinoff franchise. When he was cast in The Expendables franchise, he was meant to be the face of the new generation of action stars in relation to the older heroes from the ’80s, and, since then, Jason Statham has fully established himself as Sylvester Stallone’s rightful successor.
