Charles Barkley’s Interest Is Piqued by a Michael Jordan Memorabilia Story that Could Be Worth a Pretty Penny

Everyone has a Michael Jordan story. Although it is extremely rare to own a piece of Michael Jordan memorabilia, a TNT employee recently revealed how he got an exclusive item signed by the 6x champion. During a recent episode of Steam Room, Charles Barkley talked about receiving kid-sized shoes from Nike. While Barkley was talking about the sweet gesture for Christmas, his co-host Ernie Johnson revealed a memory from the 1980s, when he met the Chicago Bulls legend after getting kid-sized Jordans for his eldest son.

Ernie Johnson was working in Atlanta at the time so he would only get a few chances to meet with Jordan in a year. Yet he found the right opportunity to get his kid-sized Jordan shoes signed by Michael Jordan.

“Michael signed them. That was back when I was working at WSB. The Bulls were in town, so I was just down there at their shoot-around, and I took those down there, and you know what? ‘I am just gonna see if Michael would be game to sign these bad boys’. And he did it,” said Johnson, as Barkley then replied, “They could be worth some pretty penny.“.

Charles Barkley was surprised to know that Ernie had such a rare collectible of Michael Jordan. Although the Jordan brand has been making kid-sized shoes for some time now, it is extremely unlikely to find a pair that Jordan himself has signed.

Over the years, numerous pieces of Michael Jordan memorabilia have been sold for millions of dollars. So Barkley is true when he says they could be worth some money, as once a basketball signed by Jordan was sold for over 250,000 dollars. But what is the most expensive Michael Jordan memorabilia?

Michael Jordan set a new record after retiring
1998 was special for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. As this was the last dance for the team, fans were understandably salivating when the jersey worn by Jordan in Game 1 of the NBA finals was put on auction. The interest surrounding the 1998 Bulls and Jordan further skyrocketed following the documentary ‘The Last Dance‘.

This led to it becoming the most expensive game-worn memorabilia in history, as it was sold for 10.1 million dollars. This is the most expensive Jordan memorabilia ever sold, as announced by Sotheby’s.
