Amazon MGM Acquires the Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and David Ayer Action-Powered Collaboration

On the heels of the immense success of The Beekeeper, Amazon MGM, which distributed that thriller, has now acquired the upcoming actioner Levon’s Trade which reunites The Beekeeper action star Jason Statham with director David Ayer. To make this new project even juicier for fans is that the movie’s screenplay was penned by none other than Sylvester Stallone. Amazon MGM will give the thriller a wide theatrical release while Prime Video will rule streaming rights in several international territories.

Levon’s Trade hails from the novel of the same name by Chuck Dixon and tells the story of ” Levon Cade (Statham), who left his “profession” behind him to go ‘straight’ and work in construction. He wants to live a simple life and be a good father to his daughter. But when his boss’s teenage daughter Jenny vanishes, he’s called upon to re-employ the skills that made him a legendary figure in the shadowy world of black ops. His hunt for the missing college student takes him deep into the heart of a sinister criminal conspiracy creating a chain reaction that will threaten his new way of life.

The plot is similar to the prior Ayer-Statham film The Beekeeper with The Stath playing another retired former bad ass who must dust off his particular skill set. Instead of avenging a close friend’s death, however, this one sees Statham picking up weaponry again to save the daughter of his boss. If The Beekeeper was any indication, the old-school action feel will be firmly in effect once again with Statham becoming a one-man war to save the day.

The movie is set to go in front of the cameras this spring and it’s important to note that this isn’t the first time Statham has starred in an action movie written by his Expendables co-star Sly. Stallone also wrote the 2013 thriller Homefront. With this creative action team in place again with Ayer’s direction, Levon’s trade should give fans what they want in terms of adrenaline fueled beatdowns and firefights again. They are also hoping that Levon’s Trade turns into another franchise for Statham as it looks like The Beekeeper is already well on its way to being that.
