Steph Curry has made a career out of sinking outrageous basketball shots.
The NBA’s all-time leader in three points has revolutionised the sport with his marksmanship, changing the way the game is played en route to winning multiple MVPs and NBA championships.
The Golden State Warriors star has become notorious for making ridiculous trick shots over the years – and his latest might be his best yet.
In honor of the solar eclipse plunging much of the US into darkness on Monday, the 36-year-old made an audacious ‘solar eclipse’ trick shot prior to the Warriors’ 108-106 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.
Curry uploaded the shot to Instagram on Monday with the caption, “Throw it to the eclipse!”.
The clip shows Curry jogging into the paint before taking a step and launching the ball sky-high into the rafters of American Airlines Center.
Seconds later the ball comes back down to Earth and splashes through the basket as Curry shakes his head in disbelief.
Teammate Kevon Looney can be seen putting his hands in the air before Curry runs around the court and celebrates with his Golden State teammates.
Fans were in total awe of the looping shot and shared their incredulity online.
“Ts makes no sense…how does he do this,” posted one fan.
“Curry built different man,” added another.
The four-time champion has been pulling off superhero style shots since he entered the league, but even superheros need a night off from time to time.
Curry was inactive for Golden State’s matchup at home against the Jazz on Monday, despite the Warriors scrapping for a play-in tournament berth.
It’s only the seventh game he’s missed this year but head coach Steve Kerr insisted it was much needed.
“He needed it,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said.
“This is the most games he’s played in a long time. It’ll serve him well for next week.”
Friday’s loss to the Mavs seriously hurt Golden State’s chances of moving any higher than 10th in the Western Conference standings so this was a good opportunity to rest their star man.
Curry has played in 71 games this season and is averaging 26.5 points per game while shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Luckily, his teammates were able to step up against the Jazz in his absence and came away with a 118-110 win.
Golden State will finish no worse than 10th out west and will have a chance to make the postseason proper if they come through the play-in tournament.
