A record for his cards, Michael Jordan’s card sells for $2.9 million.

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan now holds another collectibles record. A signed one-of-one 2003-04 Upper Deck Jordan card sold Saturday for $2.9 million, a record for any Jordan trading card, according to Goldin Auctions.

Nine bids were made on the card yesterday during the Goldin 100 Auction which went well into the evening and passed the bidding deadline of 10 p.m. The winning bid of $2.4 million was placed at 11:30 p.m. and bumped to $2.9 million because of Goldin’s 22% buyer premium. There were 38 bids made on the card. A buyer has not been revealed.

The card was graded 10 by Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA), the highest grade a card can receive. PSA’s website states, “A PSA 10 card is a virtually perfect card.” It features the NBA logo man patch from a Jordan jersey, although it does not specify which jersey. Goldin said this is Jordan’s first signed logo man patch card in a Bulls uniform.

Although it is a record for a Jordan card, it is far from the all-time trading card record. That belongs to New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle whose 1952 Topps card was sold for $12.6 million in August 2022 by Heritage Auctions. That card eclipsed the prior record of $7.25 million set earlier that month by a T206 Honus Wagner card auctioned by Goldin.

Jordan holds the record for the most expensive jersey which is also the highest selling Jordan collectible. The jersey was worn during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals and sold by auction house Sotheby’s for $10.1 million in September 2022. The Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz in six games completing their second three-peat. Jordan was named Finals MVP.
