“Dwayne playing himself in everything straight from the start”: Dwayne Johnson’s Secret Star Trek Role Reaffirms His Career’s Single Greatest Criticism He Can Never Shrug Off

Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock has portrayed a lot of different characters in a plethora of movies. Yet, despite him doing an amazing job, the wrestler-turned-actor has never managed to convince fans that he is ‘acting’. The reason is, that Johnson often seems to be portraying more or less similar characters in numerous projects he has undertaken throughout his years in Hollywood.

Counted among the most famous celebrities of our time, several (not all!) movies of his have been commercially and critically successful. The actor has yet to fully demonstrate his acting range in roles outside of the brooding, hunk, alpha-male archetype. And his one secret Star Trek role reaffirms fans that Johnson can never play anything else.

Dwayne Johnson and His Secret Star Trek Role

Dwayne Johnson is probably among the biggest actors/celebrities in the world and Star Trek is one of the biggest franchises of all time. Yet, not many know that Johnson once appeared in the universe way back in 2000, when he was still a wrestler.

Starring in one of the best Star Trek projects of all time, The Rock had a small role in Star Trek: Voyager. In episode 15, Tsunkatse, of its sixth season, released in February 2000, Johnson appeared in a guest role as a Pendari fighter.

Johnson’s appearance was part of a crossover event between the UPN wrestling show WWF Smackdown and Voyager. One of the first WWE superstars to ever make a guest appearance in the world of Star Trek, the now-actor’s presence was a huge draw for fans (via TV Zone).

The Rock was just as iconic on the show as he is in the Ring, and even showed off his People’s Eyebrow and the epic The Rock Bottom move of his. While his appearance on the show was legendary and well-revered, drawing in a high viewership (via StarTrek.com), ever since the news of his Star Trek role resurfaced on the internet, fans are convinced The Rock can only play one type of role!

Fans Convinced Dwayne Johnson Can Only Play Himself!

Dwayne Johnson, since the very beginning of his career, has often faced criticism from fans for mostly portraying one type of role in his various acting ventures. Whether it is Jumaji, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, or Fast & Furious, the majority of his roles can be categorized as action-hero characters.

Many of his roles typically involve him playing larger-than-life figures (mostly in a jungle or non-civilized environment!) who possess exceptional physical strength, courage, and combat skills. His characters often find themselves in high-stakes situations where they must overcome grave challenges, defeat exceptionally formidable adversaries, and save the day through feats of daring and bravery.

Mostly an extension of his real-life persona or his gimmicks in the ring, fans are truly convinced Johnson can only portray one type of role after his decade-old Star Trek appearance went viral.

As the Rock’s role goes viral again, fans wholeheartedly believe the actor, despite his efforts to diversify his filmography, cannot help but play only action-hero roles. While it might be because of his looks and physicality that may have limited his choices, fans allege that an actor’s physicality cannot always be a hindrance in portraying more varied and nuanced characters

.Star Trek: Voyager can be streamed on Netflix.
