When you are driving at almost 200 mph around a track, risk factor comes into play. NASCAR has a reputation for delivering nail-biting races, with accidents being a regular occurrence. However, at such high speeds, it’s difficult to control your car once you’ve been hit. When Corey Heim and Jacob Heafner were going door to door at the recent Dale Jr. event, Heim got into a dangerous situation.
At the CARS Tour event, Corey Heim found himself upside down on lap 69. Heim drove up a wall during a shoving battle with Jacob Heafner, leading him to retire from the race. Luckily, Heim was unharmed as the officials helped flip the car to be able to clear it from the track. While going door to door, Heafner saw that Heim’s car was going to fall on his. Seeing this, he managed to dodge his opponent safely.
As the crash took place, Matt Weaver, a journalist known in the NASCAR scene, shared pictures of the incident on track on his X profile. Weaver explained what went down during the collision between the two drivers and was one of the first to let everyone know that Heim was responsive. The incident at the Caraway Speedway took place on turn 4, leaving the #55 Toyota Camry on its side only to roll over and get flipped upside down with Heim still inside.
In the end, the car flipped upside down, which had many worried about Heim’s safety. The officials managed to rescue the 23XI Racing driver, but the amount of time it took them had many fans concerned. The concerned fans caused an uproar on social media, considering the amount of time it took for the driver to get out of the car safely. This led to many of them charging to Weaver’s comments when they saw the post to share their support.
Fans went through an emotional roller coaster seeing Corey Heim’s flipped car
The crash was quite horrifying, with some fans left with no words to say after seeing the incident. Such was the case of this fan, who just had to say “Yikes” to express how scary the crash looked. But despite the track cleaning out after the incident, the track team took a little too long to flip the car, and everyone noticed.
This fan was concerned about how long the track safety team took to flip a car using a crane. The car was releasing a lot of smoke and many started worrying about a fire breaking out. However, nothing of that sort happened, fortunately, and Heim walked out of the incident without any emergency attention needed. The comment stated, “A little disturbing how long it’s taking to get it back on its wheels.”
Fans started to criticize the tow truck operators as they were taking too long to use the crane to bring Heim back to safety. In every sport, the safety of the athletes is the top priority, and it was disappointing to see that the track did not have an experienced team. Considering that, one fan commented, “These tow truck operators seem to have no idea how to flip a car back onto its wheels.”
The track crew was getting highly criticized in the comments section as the driver was stuck upside down in a wreck. Fortunately, nothing went wrong with the car, but this fan posted a comment telling the track crew to get some training. The fan said, “Track crew needs some training. This is just insane.”
More criticism came from a fan who noticed that none of the safety crew members were wearing any protective gear. This fan mentioned the worst possible outcome and stated that the crew would have been useless if there was a gas leak, putting the driver in danger. The comment read, “So one thing I noticed about the safety crew. No one was wearing any protective gear. If for some reason the car was leaking fuel or god for bid caught fire they would be no help to the driver.”
