Major D23 announcements: Dwayne Johnson’s Monster Jam, Tron Ares logo, Zoe Saldana in Elio and more

The day witnessed announcements of all kinds for Disney films under several stages of developments at the Disney Fan Event of D23.

The three-night-long event starts from August 9 until August 11.

Some of the highlights of the event are the celebration of 30 years of Toy Story, a sneak peek into Marvel Animation, and a musical celebration of Disney Princesses.

Here are some of the major Disney Film announcements of the evening:
First Look of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place series

The new series has been titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. It is a continuation of the Emmy Award-winning Wizards of Waverly Place.

The series stars David Henrie as Justin Russo, Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, and Taylor Cora as Winter.

Dwayne Johnson’s Monster Jam

The film based on the world of monster truck rallies, Dwayne Johnson will produce the film under his banner, Seven Bucks Productions.

While Johnson is producing it, it is not yet clear if he will star in it.
Zoe Saldana in Pixar’s Elio

Zoe Saldana has joined the cast of Pixar’s Elio to voice Elio’s aunt.

The film is a sci-fi adventure about an 11-year-old boy who becomes Earth’s accidental intergalactic ambassador.

The cast also includes Yonas Kibreab as Elio, America Ferrera as Olga (Elio’s mom), Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, and Brad Garrett as Ambassador Grigon.

The film, directed by Adrian Molina, is scheduled for release on June 13, 2025.
Ke Huy Quan in Zootopia

Actor Ke Huy Quan has joined the upcoming animated feature Zootopia 2, voicing for a snake named Gary.

The movie follows detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they search for Gary, a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.

The film is scheduled for release on November 26, 2025.
New footage from Captain America: Brave New World out

The makers have released action-packed footage containing scenes Sam Wilson fighting Isaiah Bradley, who has been triggered to assassinate the President. The footage confirms Harrison Ford’s role as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will transform into the Red Hulk.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in the US on February 14, 2025.
Ironheart details out

Major details about the new series Ironheart have been unveiled in the event.

The series follows Riri Williams, a teenage genius who created her own Iron Man suit, as she returns to her hometown of Chicago.

The star cast of the series includes Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins/The Hood, and Alden Ehrenreich.

The trailer of the series was launched in the event, but not it’s not out on the internet.
First look of live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch

The first look of the live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch, directed Dean Fleischet Camp and written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, was unveiled at the event, where a glimpse of the titular alien’s CGI design was displayed.

The story follows Lilo Pelekai, raised by her older sister Nani, and Stitch, an alien creature with the code name Experiment 626.

The film is expected to release in Summer 2025, but the exact date has not been specified.
Tron Ares

The film, that has Hasan Minhaj and Arturo Castro in the cast, has been planned to be released theatrically on October 10, 2025.

The film follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings
