Jason Statham and the Director of a Plane Collaborate on an Action-Thriller, Mutiny.

Action movie superstar Jason Statham will unite with the director behind last year’s Plane, Jean-François Richet, for Mutiny, which will find The Beekeeper star on the run while uncovering a major global conspiracy. No doubt while punching as many people as possible. Mutiny comes courtesy of Lionsgate, who have now picked up the North American distribution rights ahead of the Cannes market.

The studio reportedly picked up the rights for eight figures, according to Deadline, with Mutiny being written by Plane’s J.P. Davis and Lindsay Michel. As well as taking the lead, Statham will also produce the project through his new company, Punch Palace Productions, alongside Marc Butan and MadRiver Pictures. You can check out a synopsis for Mutiny below.

“In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime— leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy.”

Production on the action thriller is all set to begin in September this year in the United Kingdom, with VP, Co-Productions and Acquisitions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Lauren Bixby excited to see Statham and the Plane filmmaker team-up for the first time.

“Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane. We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life.”

Jason Statham Has Seen Huge Success With This Year’s The Beekeeper

Jason Statham recently saw huge success with The Beekeeper, which finds the action star on familiar ground as a man who, after losing a dear friend to a scam, leaves his quiet beekeeping ways behind and enacts a brutal campaign for vengeance. Directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer, The Beekeeper is led by Jason Statham, with the rest of the cast including the likes of Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, with Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.

Released back in January, The Beekeeper has been a massive success for both Statham and Ayer, with the action outing now the biggest solo movie for Statham at the worldwide box office. The revenge movie garnered $152.7 million at the worldwide box office and was also well-received by critics, landing a score of 70% from audiences and 92% from audiences on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

Alongside joining Jean-François Richet for Mutiny, The Stath will reunite with David Ayer for another mission of revenge and conspiracy uncovering in Levon’s Trade. Based on the novel of the same name by comic writer Chuck Dixon, and with a script written by none other than Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, Levon’s Trade recently added David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Arianna Rivas (The Harvest) to the roster.
