Draymond Green returned from his five-game suspension and played in the Golden State Warriors-Sacramento Kings matchup, but Stephen Curry wants to see Green’s professionalism, good play and leadership in action.
During the Warriors-Kings game, Green was booed every time he touched the ball at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. The fans were able to distract Draymond, who finished the game with four turnovers and only eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
But such was his distraction that not only did he have a mediocre return to the court, but he also made two blunders.
The first was when he earned a technical foul in the fourth quarter for imitating the referee’s hand signal when marking a dribbling violation.
The second mistake, in this case a crucial one, was when with 30 seconds left in the game he threw the ball out of bounds on a supposed pass giving the Kings the opportunity to set up the next play and get the win by just one point over the Warriors, the final score was 124-123 and Sacramento moved on to the quarterfinals of the NBA Season Tournament.
Stephen Curry on Draymond Green
After the game, Stephen Curry told a press conference that he expects Green’s competitive spirit to remain and not be distracted despite the boos from the fans.
“Be fiery. Be competitive. Be who you are. But we all have to be conscious of not getting distracted and just trying to play basketball.”
“He’s passionate and there are conversations that he’s shown in the past that when he gets fiery, you kind of know where the edge is. The takeaway sign and all that, I was doing the same thing right behind him, and he got the technique just because that’s kind of what you expect him to do in that type of situation. I told him to focus on that moment and get the basket, but it was a dumb technique. We all do it.”
Stephen Curry expects professionalism and focus from Draymond Green before blunders vs. Sacramento Kings.
