Disney did wonders in 2016 with the release of the animated film, Moana, which garnered widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike. It featured an ensemble cast with Dwayne Johnson voicing Maui, the demigod in the movie. As he’s set to reprise his voice role in its upcoming sequel, things are moving in a pretty great direction for his work with the House of Mouse.
Given that he is already set to debut with his animated role in the live-action Moana, his recent deal with Disney would seemingly open doors for him to make his most hilarious parody a reality.
Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions Signs a First-Look Deal With Disney
As per Variety, The Rock and Dany Garcia founded Seven Bucks Productions has signed a first-look deal with The Walt Disney Company to develop films for theatrical and streaming. This multi-year agreement includes several potential projects that could feature Dwayne Johnson in a starring role.
However, the report noted that the agreement isn’t limited to just “filmed content.” Instead, the deal would allow the production company to collaborate with the House of Mouse’s giant media and entertainment empire.
The potential collaboration between these two leads to endless possibilities as Johnson’s brand image could be integrated into Disney’s theme parks and ventures among others.
Johnson’s company has been quite open to collaborating with other studies however it has still cemented a strong bond with the House of Mouse. It can be witnessed with the Jungle Cruise film adaptation and two seasons of Behind the Attraction, which provides a detailed look at Disney theme park attractions’ history.
Given that this deal features a lot that Johnson’s company can work on, it also opens opportunities for the WWE star to work on the live-action adaptations of Disney’s animated works. Since, Moana is already a hit among audiences, with this deal done, it seemingly could turn his Bambi parody to life.
Dwayne Johnson as Bambi – Hilarious SNL Sketch Could be Brought to Life!
Back in 2015, the Jumanji actor surprised fans when he took on the role of the Disney character, Bambi which is far different from how fans remembered the classic character. SNL video team released a mock promo for Disney’s “biggest remake yet” as they announced a live-action Bambi movie with the actor taking on a gritty portrayal of the character.
The hilarious parody featured an older version of the Disney character, who seeks revenge on the hunters who were responsible for his mother’s death. The actor delivers his intention with a dialogue that states, “Now it’s time for them to pay… dearly.”
Along with the actor, the SNL video features his Furious 7 castmates who are imagined as his live-action Bambi (parody) co-stars: Vin Diesel (Taran Killam) as Thumper, Tyrese Gibson (Jay Pharoah) as Flower, and Michelle Rodriguez (Cecily Strong) as Feline.
What’s more interesting is the fact that the studio has already announced its live-action Bambi adaptation in 2020. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer are attached to pen the script with the Depth of Field production company producing it.
Sarah Polley was initially set to direct the movie but IndieWire reported earlier this year that she is no longer working on it. Nonetheless, the project is still in development and could make space for Johnson’s involvement, thanks to the new deal now.
