Warriors guard Stephen Curry: often imitated, never duplicated.
In the span of a decade, the Golden State sharpshooter has gone from an All-Star to one of the most influential players in the history of basketball. His style of play has spread throughout the world, turning the three-pointer into the game’s most potent weapon.
Crucially, Curry has also attained a level of celebrity matched by few athletes in the 21st or any century. Like Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson, he is the kind of person for whom having impersonators does not seen out of bounds.
Enter steppingcurry30, a TikTok page attributed to a Philippines-based comedian that depicts him impersonating the future Hall of Famer in various locations. One such TikTok, seemingly set in an airport, went viral in the United States Wednesday with the (unlikely) suggestion that the travelers tailing him thought the comedian was really Curry.
Clad in full Warriors regalia with near-identical facial hair to Curry, the comedian performed Curry’s trademark “night-night” celebration, mimicked a step-back three, and punctuated the informal show with a backflip to a chorus of cheers.
The only question remaining is whether he will link up with banned Klay Thompson impersonator Dawson Gurley in the future.
