The Expendables franchise is probably dead in the water after the fourth film fiasco but Jason Statham’s stock as a leading man action star is on the rise after the blockbuster success of this past January’s The Beekeeper. Statham is reteaming with director David Ayer for Levon’s Trade which looks to become a new action franchise, but we now have word that The Stath has already lined up his next action pic after that.
According to Deadline, Statham will star in an as of yet titled action=thriller from director Baltasar Kormakur who is best known for the films 2 Guns, Everest, Contraband and most recently Beast with Idris Elba. The new project may not have a title, but it has a synopsis which you can check out below to see what Statham will be decimating next!
In the currently untitled pic, Statham will play Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl from the ocean in a terrible storm, he sets a chain of events in motion that brings a violent attack to his hideaway, forcing him back into the world to confront the ghosts of his past. Per Deadline.
Ahhh yes. Statham living a quiet life only to reignite his particular skill set when his past comes back to kill him. Stop me if you heard this one before. Make no mistake, the plot is secondary to Statham running the gauntlet and dispatching baddies left and right. Statham will also produce the pic via his Punch Palace production banner along with Kormákur for RVK Studios, John Friedberg (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) for Black Bear, and Jon Berg (Wonder Woman) and Greg Silverman who is the former President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production for Warner Bros., for Stampede Ventures, who developed the film. Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler are executive producers for Black Bear.
Lock n Load for more Statham mass destruction!!!!
I have always said that Frank Grillo is the hardest working man in the movie industry and now we can add television as well. Grillo was recently announced as being a part of season 2 of Tulsa King with Sly and now we have word that Grillo is set to play Rick Flag, Sr. in James Gunn’s season 2 of Peacemaker with John Cena! Grillo is already voicing Rick Flag, Sr. in Gunn’s DCU animated series Creature Commandos and now he’s set to play the live action version as well!
“Pleased to announce the great Frank Grillo will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr — the role he’ll first play in animated form in Creature Commandos — throughout season 2 of Peacemaker,” Gunn stated on Threads. “Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…”
We all know that Grillo was criminally misused as Crossbones by Kevin Feige and the MCU, so it looks like Gunn is going to rectify that and unleash Grillo in full force for DC. Creature Commandos is similar to Suicide Squad in that a ragtag team of misfits are enlisted for black ops missions the U.S. government but unlike the Suicide Squad being supervillains, these killers are monsters. Grillo stars as the voice of Flag in Creature Commandos along with a stacked cast including David Harbour as Frankenstein, Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as the radioactive Doctor Phosphorous, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, and Gunn’s very own brother Sean Gunn who wil have the dual role of G.I. Robot and Weasel.
Gunn stated that the animated DCU projects will merge with the live action so Grillo’s Flag will be the same version in both projects!
There’s no denying that Amazon Prime’s reimagining of Road House with Jake Gyllenhaal divided the action fan base upon being released but the movie went on to become the most watched movie in the streamer’s history. With that, it’s a no-brainer that Prime Video is set to reopen the bar for business yet again with Gyllenhaal set to return!
The Doug Liman helmed Road House, with Gyllenhaal, was a colossal hit for Prime Video when it hit this past March. Prime has issued that Road House was viewed by a whopping 50 million global viewers upon launch, which is an absurd number making it one of the most watched streaming movies of all time. while promoting the movie. Gyllenhaal expressed that he was open to doing a sequel a follow up, and the film’s ending left a massive cliffhanger concerning Conor McGregor’s character in the post-credits sequence. Amazon made the announcement at its Upfronts presentation yesterday that a sequel is officially in the works, with Gyllenhaal reprising his role of Dalton.
I was one of the viewers who was less than thrilled with the movie, but I didn’t hate it so I’m hoping they fix certain issues from the first film for the sequel like putting in more damn brawls! Love it or hate it, we are getting more Road House in the future. It’s just a shame that Patrick Swayze never got the opportunity to play his iconic version of Dalton on more films when he was alive.
There’s no word on who else from the cast will return but bet bank that McGregor will be back for a rematch!
