Despite the fact that Anthony Edwards’ impact on the game doesn’t even come close to Michael Jordan’s, many think his style of playing is very identical to that of the Bulls legend.
FS1 contributor Rachel Nichols appeared on the show UNDISPUTED and told the panelists that she had asked Edwards about his thoughts on these comparisons with MJ a month ago.
The Timberwolves star told Nichols that he doesn’t think his accomplishments can be comparable to Jordan’s. However, the 22-year-old star appeared comfortable enough to accept the compliment that he might look like an ’80s version of MJ. “Like in the 80s? Ant was like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s me.'”
“You talk about that raw talent, energy, competitiveness, toughness, the way he is playing right now with a broken finger, that’s an MJ move,” Nichols added.
A month ago, Kevin Garnett said Edwards is reminding him of a “young ’84 (Michael) Jordan.” “I’m watching how he coming through the lane. If (Karl-Anthony Towns) wasn’t on his team, he would average thirty-something,” he went on to say.
“That’s OG, man. Whatever he says, goes. If anybody wants to argue with him, you gotta take it up with Michael Jordan,” Edwards reacted talking to Nichols.
“I think he’s right. He didn’t say ’96 or ’97, he said ’84. He’s just finding himself, so I agree with that.”
In a recent edition of ‘First Things First,’ co-host Chris Broussard revealed a text exchange he had with Jordan.
“Well, I reached out to the GOAT today, Michael Jordan. And he said there are similarities in their games; he agreed,” Broussard said.
Michael Jordan averaged 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists in his rookie season with the Bulls in 1984-85. Edwards, on the other hand, is in his fourth year in the NBA, averaging 26.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this season.
