Michael Jordan was the first-ever athlete turned billionaire. His incredible basketball talent made him one of a kind during his NBA career. However, his entrepreneurial success truly makes him one of a kind outside the world of basketball as well.
Michael Jordan owns and has been a part of many successful business endeavors in the last couple of years. One of the successful businesses that he is a part of is the luxurious Tequila brand ‘Cincoro’. In a recent interview, a co-founder reflects on the one summer night that set the course for the famous tequila brand.
Co-founder recalls the iconic summer night
In 2016, Emilia Fazzalari co-founded Cincoro Tequila alongside 4 NBA team owners and now close friends. The 3 NBA team owners were Jeanie Buss from the LA Lakers, Wes Edens from the Milwaukee Bucks, Wyc Grousbeck from the Boston Celtics, and Michael Jordan from the Charlotte Hornets. In the interview with ‘Maxim’, Emilia Fazzalari explains that she and the 4 NBA team owners crossed paths in New York City for the NBA Board of Governors meetings. She reveals, “The five of us decided to get together for dinner that night. Here we are, the five of us representing four competing NBA teams—the Lakers, Celtics, Bucks, and Hornets—yet as individuals we were destined to become the best of friends.”
Emilia Fazzalari explains that the five of them bonded over tequila and that is where the concept of ‘Cincoro’ was born. She then explains the goal they intended to achieve, “We talked late into the night about what we wanted in a tequila. Something that was ultra-smooth and simply delicious. So, our goal was set—to make the most delicious spirit we have ever tasted and create the gold standard. Hence our name Cinco for five and Oro for gold.”
The 5 people involved in this business endeavor are extremely competitive and talented entrepreneurs because they know how to make sure that a brand excels in the market. So how is the ‘Cincoro’ tequila brand doing now?
Rise of Michael Jordan’s Cincoro
After being involved in the luxurious tequila brand in the early stages, Michael Jordan has hit yet another milestone after his success with ‘Cincoro’. Cincoro’s prices for its four bottles start with the ‘Blanco’ which is for $90. The ‘Reposado’ and ‘Anejo’ are sold for $130 a bottle and, finally, the ‘Extra Anejo’ is sold for a whopping $1,600.
Since they are stored for 40 months, they have a toasted oak kind of taste. It tastes woody because of its age but it has dried fruits and spices which add to the woody flavour. Today, the ‘Cincoro’ tequila brand has sold a staggering 1.5 million bottles and won 23 awards in accredited spirits competitions. Currently, the business is thriving as it is available in all 50 U.S. states, Canada, and the Dominican Republic.
