Michael Jordan hasn’t been on an NBA floor for over 20 years. Yet, the value and clamor for all things Jordan is still as high as ever. From his signature shoes to his iconic jerseys, fans and collectors alike will go to great lengths to get their hands on a piece of MJ’s legacy.
Most recently, at the Bring a Trailer auction, one lucky bidder was able to acquire a rare piece of Michael Jordan memorabilia – his 1991 BMW 850i. The luxurious sports car, owned by Jordan during the height of his career with the Chicago Bulls, sold for an impressive $108,723.
1991 was a good year
The 1991 season was a memorable year for His Airness. He again led the NBA in scoring, averaging 31.5 points per game to go with 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game.
Most of all, Jordan and the Bulls finally broke through the Eastern Conference roadblock that was the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Playoffs on their way to their first NBA title after defeating Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, 4-1.
Fascination with cars
Jordan’s fascination with luxurious cars is no secret. Through the years, the Bulls icon has been spotted with different kinds of cars, from Ferraris to Porsches to Aston Martins. In fact, Jordan is known for his vast car collection, which includes the ultra-rare Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster, which costs an eye-watering $3 million.
According to the Hennessey website, this model is the “most powerful and visceral pure-combustion hypercar in the world.”
