The Cannes market is proving to be very busy for Jason Statham. Just days after he signed up to star in action-thriller Mutiny from Plane director Jean-Francois Richet, Statham has already landed another. Deadline reports Statham will star in an untitled action-thriller from Everest director Baltasar Kormákur.
In the film by writer Ward Parry, Statham plays “Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl from the ocean in a terrible storm, he sets a chain of events in motion that brings a violent attack to his hideaway, forcing him back into the world to confront the ghosts of his past.”
Statham recently scored the biggest solo starring film of his career with The Beekeeper, which will be getting a sequel. He’ll be seen next in Levon’s Trade, a reunion with director David Ayer, and likely the sequel to Fast X in the role of Deckard Shaw.
Kormákur is the Icelandic filmmaker best known for survival thrillers such as Everest, The Deep, and Adrift. He also directed 2 Guns, Contraband, and most recently the Idris Elba thriller, Beast. His latest film, Touch, opens this July.
Production begins in November, and once we learn more we’ll pass it along.
