Let us begin by saying that Chris Paul was selected as one of the NBA’s Top 75 players in the league’s history. He is already a future Hall-of-Famer without question but his move to the Golden State Warriors will put him through tests he has never experienced as an NBA star. But everywhere he goes, Chris Paul has always been the alpha player on the team. throughout his long career, there hasn’t been a time in which he hasn’t started a game when he is healthy.
Coming to the Golden State Warriors will change that in an instant with Stephen Curry as the top dog inside that team. Coach Steve Kerr may or may not have a hard time managing egos inside the Warriors dressing room. We won’t know until chris Paul actually starts playing with the team.
Chris Paul confirms he hasn’t spoken to Steve Kerr yet
During a recent exchange with the press last week, Chris Paul confirmed he still hasn’t spoken at all with the coach. He confirmed that any conversation they will have is going to happen when camp starts. But that exchange was quite interesting and it showed how used Chris Paul is to starting all his games.
Immediately after the first mention of him coming from the bench happened, Paul asked the journalist if she was the coach. Clearly, he is not willing to go down without a fight and he will make his best effort to keep starting games. But reality might strike Chris Paul dead in the face once he realizes he is no longer the team leader.
That role goes directly to Stephen Curry and the quicker he realizes it, the faster his adaptation to the Golden State Warriors will be. Everybody understands how senior he is in terms of history but he is not coming to a team that is not already well-structured.
When he does sit down for that talk with Steve Kerr, sparks may fly because he may not react well to becoming a bench player. Father time catches on to all of us and Chris Paul will be no exception. No matter how great his results have been in the past, there is a heriarchy of power that Chris Paul needs to respect. He is a smart individual, surely he already knows all of this.
