Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Breaks Out Into Impromptu “Moana” Performance On The Tonight Show

Those who just can’t wait to see Disney’s upcoming live action Moana remake should tune in for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s appearance on The Tonight Show where he sings a snippet from the musical! Audience members broke into wild cheers as the actor surprised everyone by bursting into song during his interview with Jimmy Fallon. One moment, Johnson was talking about his role as Maui in the highly anticipated film; the next, he was pulling a microphone out of thin air! Then, he seamlessly transitioned into a brief performance of You’re Welcome from the Moana soundtrack.

Before Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson started singing, he’d been supplying a few details about the upcoming Disney film. Obviously, he was preparing to reprise his role as Maui, whom he voiced in the animated film. Also returning would be Lin-Manuel Miranda, who composed much of the original music. Johnson revealed that Hamilton director Tommy Kail would be joining the crew, as well.

It’s pretty exciting to get a sneak peak at The Rock singing You’re Welcome in real life! While we all know and love the animated version of Maui, we’re pretty sure Johnson is going to be incredible in the live action role. Jimmy Fallon seemed thrilled about the actor reprising his part.

“You’re real-life Maui!” the host exclaimed during the interview.

The Tonight Show shared a great clip on social media of The Rock singing his heart out, joined by Fallon for the chorus. Commenters were thrilled to catch a glimpse of what it will be like when the actor is playing the live action role!

“I am SO FREAKIN EXCITED, lowkey gonna be weird to see The Rock with long hair haha,” wrote one user.

Another added, “Can NOT wait for this! Favorite Disney movie!”

Unfortunately, fans are going to have to wait a while for the live action Moana to finally hit theaters. Today tells us that the official release date is July 10, 2026. However, we wouldn’t want Disney to rush the production! We’re sure it will be worth the wait.
