It was an open secret but in recent weeks, several reports and rumors have been uncovered that claim that Dwayne Johnson does not have the best of attitudes on sets, paralyzing Netflix projects and even millions of dollars in losses to Amazon Studios due to his delays and fights in filming. But The Rock has decided to get even and be active on social media, preparing to play a UFC champion in a drama produced by A24. He often shows off his workout routine to get in shape and the result is truly spectacular.
And that is all thanks to his team of trainers. So in a recent Instagram post, he decided to thank his trainers for all the help they have been providing. But while it seemed like a great gesture, fans couldn’t help but notice that the Rock was wearing his wrestling attire in the photo while training for MMA.
The Rock’s peculiar choice peaks interest
Putting Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in a movie about a professional wrestler seems to be easy, as it would have been to put John Cena in. Although both wrestlers have made almost the complete leap to the film industry, they began their careers in WWE. Johnson will play MMA champion Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, the Ben Safdie film that serves as a biopic of Kerr and will be produced by A24.
But wrestling and MMA are very different and the Rock makes sure that the fans are aware of it. So he often posts videos and photos of his intense MMA training to show fans how hard it can get. And in a recent post, he thanked his trainers, as he wrote, “Training camp – working hard to learn and absorb everything I can. Thank you @blackhousemma for allowing me the privilege of training in your gym as I prepare for the role Mark Kerr, in “The Smashing Machine”. Mark was a two time @UFC Heavyweight World Tournament Champion and World Vale Tudo Champion. A true honor for me to pay homage & respect to this legendary MMA Godfather, all MMA fighters, the MMA community and to all our athletes who’ve struggled with mental health and addiction.”
But really caught everyone’s attention was the fact that the Rock is wearing his trademark Brahma Bull rights rather than the typical MMA shorts.
Seems like Dwayne Johnson wants to keep feeling like the Rock even when he’s inside the Octagon. Although Dwayne Johnson has seen his career grow thanks to blockbusters, The Smashing Machine aims to be a much more personal film for him, and you can tell that he wants to do his bit beyond his imposing physical presence.
