Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson helped grant a wish for a little 4-year-old girl.
He appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday, July 3, in the Pop News segment of the show which co-host Lara Spencer spearheads. She was joined by other co-hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Gio Benitez. They showed the heartfelt video The Rock posted on his Instagram account on Sunday, June 30, of him granting a Make-A-Wish for a 4-year-old Lily Guerrero.
After the video finished playing and Laura finished reporting, George stated that the wrestler-turned-actor was “such a good man” which Lara agreed saying, “He is a great man.” Robin added that “he often does things like this, often he does” and Lara replied back, “Yes he does, a great guy.”
The video was captioned with Make-A-Wish America tagged at the end: “Needed to share this ‘rush’ wish with all of you. And in return we all can send this little 4yr old girl all the positive vibes and beautiful MANA she deserves and needs right now. Lily is on home hospice and her wish is for me to sing ‘You’re Welcome’ Lily Guerrero, it’s my honor and this one is for you….I love you, and I want you to always know just how special you are ~ Maui. ps – tell your cats I said hello, and sorry for singing in some keys that don’t exist.”
He opened the video greeting viewers and sharing the reason for the video. He explained he received a request from Make a Wish which is a foundation he holds “near and dear” to his heart. He added that he’s had the “honor of granting wishes for years now.” He said the request he received is a “special” one that is called a “rush” wish. He elaborated that a “rush” wish is “exactly what the name implies,” meaning time is of the essence and “not on our side.” He stated Lily’s wish was to have a recording of him singing his iconic song from Moana for her to listen to since Lily watches the Disney film “every day, all day.”
“Lily’s parents have asked me to share her wish on social media to celebrate Lily’s spirit, strength, and mana, and to send positive energy back to her. Though Lily is no longer verbally communicating due to being on a feeding tube, she can still hear, see, and react. She’s super excited about this,” the 52-year said, detailing the reason for the video being on social media.
In the rest of the video, he shares some of Lily’s favorite things and facts about her. He shared that Taylor Swift is her fave artist, The Rock is her favorite actor and that she loves Outshine Purple popsicles. He sang the whole song and sent “special girl” Lily some more well-wished and kind words of support.
The Rock, earlier this year, granted 21 Make-A Wish wishes and brought the children and their family to Universal Studios in Los Angeles, CA ending with a personal meet and greet. The father-of-three is gearing up to return as Maui in the highly anticipated sequel to Moana that comes out Nov. 27, 2024. The teaser trailer premiered on May 29 and has set new records with Disney. The trailer had 178 million views in 24 hours making it the company’s biggest animated trailer launch ever.
