A Coldstream property where the scenes from the Hollywood movie ‘Killer Elite’ starring Jason Statham and Robert De Niro were filmed has hit the market.
The film, which came out in 2011, is about a retired assassin forced back into the trade when his mentor is taken captive.
The expansive farm has also been the background for plenty of other films, advertisements and even music videos, the owner said.
Built in the 1870s, the six-bedroom compound at 741-745 Maroondah Highway is steeped in history and has been owned by the same family for 83 years.
It features a main house, a studio, old brick stables, a shearing shed and more than 1km of Yarra River frontage.
Jodie Savage and husband Andrew decided to sell the sheep and cattle farm with $13m-$14m price hopes.
Ms Savage said her grandfather purchased the property in the 1940s during World War II out of fear that Melbourne would be wiped out.\
“Everyone feared that Melbourne was going to be bombed, so he decided he needed a country property to bring his children up,” she said.
She added that it was a beautiful and picturesque place to live, and she would miss the birds, gardens and history of the property the most.
“You walk up the stairs onto the veranda and there are grooves in them and you think, wow who has stepped here?” she said.
Ms Savage noted her husband and three children loved to camp down by the Yarra River, which she called “the beach”.
“We are lucky on the Yarra; there’s a sweeping curve, then all the sand goes on that spot and we camp there,” she said.
Listing agent Val Nichols said the property was iconic to the Yarra Valley and had a “real ensemble of buildings”.
