The Warriors’ Stephen Curry has been in the news this offseason for myriad reasons, not all of them positive. Many basketball analysts and former players have taken aim at Curry including Rasheed Wallace who said his 2004 Pistons would beat Curry’s championship teams, adding that Curry is ‘not a defender.’
Now, the man known as ‘Agent Zero,’ Gilbert Arenas, has unleashed comments many thought they would never hear out of his mouth, giving NBA legend Allen Iverson his flowers at Curry’s expense.
The news came amid a savage mocking of Curry’s portrayal in the new mini-series ‘Clipped.’ Meanwhile, Draymond Green clapped back at Skip Bayless over ‘dirty player’ accusations.
Are Curry and Iverson really not on the same level? According to Arenas, that answer is a resounding ‘yes’ in one key category.
Curry gets shade thrown in his direction by Arenas
Arenas stated with extreme passion that Iverson saw way more attention from opposing defenses, a possible surprise to anyone who watched Curry during his Warriors prime.
“Allen Iverson demanded all five (players),” Arenas said. “(Steph Curry) has never been quadruple teamed. If Klay (Thompson) was with (Iverson), he would average 30,” Arenas said about the fellow Splash Brother and former Washington State Cougars guard Thompson.
Conversation got heated as hosts of the GilsArenaShow got into it over the hot topic of the day.
Iverson vs. Warriors’ Curry: Tale of the Tape
Iverson of course retired with zero championship while Curry has four titles to his credit thus far over the course of his illustrious career with the Dubs. The Warriors shooting guard Curry has played in one more season and one more post-season than ‘The Answer’ while Iverson has one more All-Star Game appearance to his name.
Curry has more All-NBA First Team appearances and more All-NBA teams (10 to 7), but Iverson averaged more points per game over the course of his NBA career, on a nearly five percent lower shooting percentage.
Regardless of where you side with on the Iverson vs. Curry debate, one thing’s for sure: opposing defenses have done more than their fair share of doubling, tripling, and even quadruple teaming ‘Chef Curry’ at various times over the duration of his Warriors career.
