With the preseason finishing up, many teams around the league are waiving some of their training camp signings and taking a look at new players. The Golden State Warriors are the latest team to do this, as Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on Monday morning that the team waived Donovan Williams, Javan Johnson, and Kendric Davis, and are signing Javonte Green and Yuri Collins.
None of these players will likely end up on Golden State’s main roster, but it’s still an opportunity to make a strong impression for when opportunities pop up down the line. Many, if not all of these players will likely end up with the Santa Cruz Warriors, which is Golden State’s G-League affiliate.
As previously mentioned, this is a standard procedure for many NBA teams at this point in the preseason. Having gotten a good look at the players they just waived, the Warriors now want a closer look at Green and Collins. There won’t be too many preseason minutes available for the newly signed players, but with Golden State’s veterans not playing heavy minutes in these exhibition games, there could be some opportunities available.
The Warriors have two preseason games remaining, and will have both Green and Collins on their camp roster for those games. After that the Warriors will finalize their opening night roster which may or may not include one more standard signing.
