Golden State Warriors are set to sign free agent forward Dario Saric to a one-year deal, adding much-needed size and shooting to their bench.
Warriors fans pleaded with their team to add size to their team, which was dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Saric has agreed to a one-year contract with the seven-time NBA champions.
The only move the 2022 NBA champions had made in the offseason was acquiring veteran point guard Chris Paul in a blockbuster trade that sent young guard Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. The trade raised some eyebrows from fans.
The 6-foot-10 forward fully recovered from an ACL injury that forced him to miss the entire 2020-21 NBA season.
What will Saric bring to the Warriors?
Saric was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft. He made his debut in the 2016/17 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has also appeared for Phoenix, Oklahoma City, and the Minnesota Timberwolves and averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 413 games.
Saric was probably the player who perfectly fits with the Warriors’ style. He essentially replaces Otto Porter Jr., who played a huge role in their 2022 NBA championship run, according to Anthony Slater.
One key thing is Saric spent almost two seasons with Paul in Phoenix, meaning they already have the chemistry that will be useful at Chase Center next season. He will add another element to the Warriors and should be a key piece off the bench as Steve Kerr’s team try to make another title run.
Paul on playing with Curry
Sports Brief previously reported on Paul discussing playing alongside Curry, a player he’s known for a long time.
The 18-year veteran, considered one of the best point guards of all time, said his wife attended Curry’s wedding.
Paul said he was excited at the chance to play at the Warriors with Curry, Thompson, and their other veterans.
