It’s safe to say that the Golden State Warriors didn’t exactly have the title defense campaign that they would’ve liked in 2023. Losing in the second round to the Los Angeles Lakers, a lower-seeded team, was not what the Warriors mapped out before the season. Nevertheless, you can also say that the Warriors were lucky to have even made it that far. Golden State had a regular season to forget last year.
The hope is that won’t be the case this season. And heading into the offseason, the Warriors needed to make moves that would ensure that from happening again. While it’s impossible to say that’s exactly what the Warriors accomplished, they certainly had a busy summer.
The Golden State Warriors quieted outside noise
At least to a certain extent, the Warriors cleared up the direction of the franchise. By re-signing Draymond Green and trading Jordan Poole, Golden State made it clear that they plan on running full sprint with their current core. At least for the next few seasons.
After trying to play both sides (trying to retool with the old core), the Warriors quickly realized that was going to be impossible with having to pay Draymond this summer and then Klay Thompson next. On the surface, that was the big pivot we saw from the Warriors this offseason.
Looking back at the rest of their moves, we dig a little deeper into their best and worst moves from the summer.
