Jason Statham has another new action movie coming out in 2025, and expectations are even higher for Levon’s Trade now that it’s coming on the heels of The Beekeeper. Statham delivered a surprise hit at the start of 2024 as his and David Ayer’s action movie far exceeded box office projections. The Beekeeper’s box office ballooned to an impressive $152 million worldwide, and that meant Amazon MGM, who was behind the original action film, got right back into business with the duo. This brought the announcement of Levon’s Trade and its 2025 release date.
The success of The Beekeeper came as an unexpected development considering Statham was fresh off The Expend4bles flopping at the box office. This went against the actor’s usual ability to draw audiences in and turn his action movies into hits. While The Beekeeper 2 is still not announced, Levon’s Trade should be the next best thing. Amazon MGM will certainly make sure you and I know that it comes from the same team that made The Beekeeper something critics and audiences liked. This raises the bar for Levon’s Trade to be a success in turn.
Levon’s Trade’s Box Office Now Must Live Up To The Beekeeper’s Success
Statham & Ayer Have Done It Already
There are now greater expectations for Levon’s Trade to be a sizable hit on par with, or greater than, what The Beekeeper was. Amazon MGM greenlit the film as a chance to rework with Statham and Ayer again after seeing how well the 2024 action movie did. The addition of Sylvester Stallone as a co-writer, but not co-star, also helps. Instead of the studios just hoping for a cheaper action movie that could turn a minor profit at the box office, Levon’s Trade will now be expected to follow in The Beekeeper’s footsteps and wildly outperform typical projections.
Before the overperformance of The Beekeeper, Jason Statham’s action movies tended to do well, but not great, at the box office. The Meg and The Expendables are the only other franchise starters he’s done that made more, but those were much bigger productions. Statham was otherwise known for making action movie franchises that made less than half of The Beekeeper’s $152 million total. The lower benchmark for success would’ve been applicable to Levon’s Trade before, but not anymore. If it doesn’t at least match The Beekeeper’s box office, it could be viewed as a disappointment financially.
Levon’s Trade Is Copying How Jason Statham Made The Beekeeper A Hit
The good news for Levon’s Trade is that the movie appears to be copying The Beekeeper’s game plan to replicate its success. Beyond keeping the same creative team and studio partnership, the movie was given a January 2025 release date. While that window can sometimes be where studios dump movies they are not confident in, this was the perfect spot for The Beekeeper to launch in 2024. It had almost no competition and was able to secure itself as one of the year’s earliest hits.
Having Levon’s Trade release in January 2025 should help it find success at the box office. However, the movie will encounter greater competition than The Beekeeper faced, as the Den of Thieves sequel comes out weeks before, and Guy Ritchie’s next action movie In The Grey opens the same day. What could really help Levon’s Trade succeed is if it matches the critical acclaim that The Beekeeper received too.
