The Golden State Warriors suffered a devastating loss last week. Their assistant coach, Dejan Milojević, passed away last Wednesday after suffering a sudden heart attack during a team dinner. He was immediately taken to the hospital in Salt Lake City, where he took his final breath. The Warriors are still mourning the passing of their 46-year-old coach.
Stephen Curry and Co. honored Milojević by taking a season-long vow in a heartwarming gesture towards their late coach.
The Warriors honor Dejan Milojević
NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that the Warriors will wear a “DM” patch on their uniform for the remainder of the season in honor of assistant coach Dejan Milojevic. His initials will be engraved inside a heart on the Warriors’ jersey. The logo will also be replicated on the floor of the Chase Center court for all the remaining home games this season. That is a wholesome gesture by the Warriors for a staff member who worked with them for three years.
Milojevic became part of the Warriors coaching staff in 2021. He took over the assistant coach role and helped Stephen Curry and Co. win a Championship in 2022. Milojević was in his third season with the Warriors and was on the road with the team when he suffered a heart attack. Stephen Curry and Co. were in Utah to play the Jazz when Milojevic passed away. The game was postponed after the sudden demise of the assistant coach. Several Warriors members, including Stephen Curry and former President Bob Myers, paid homage to Milojević after his passing.
Stephen Curry and Bob Myers talk about Dejan Milojević
Stephen Curry addressed the passing of Milojević and revealed what it was like working with him. “Every time you talk to him, it’s the presence that is loud even though it might not be the words. It’s a smile, it’s a hug.” Steph said. He also commended Milojević’s ability to praise, criticize, and direct players to work towards their goals. “That’s the art of a great coach.” The 4-time Champion added. Steph worked closely with Milojevic during his tenure and had nothing but great things to say about the late assistant coach.
Even former Warriors President Bob Myers was hurt by Milojevic’s passing and revealed his amazing personality. “It’s just hard because he was this bigger-than-life person, and he would light up a room,” Myers said in an interview. The passing of Dejan Milojević has left a huge void in the Golden State Warriors franchise. The logos in his honor will be unveiled in tomorrow’s game as Stephen Curry and Co. face the Atlanta Hawks.
