In an Expendables 4 clip, Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone engage in a bar brawl

A new clip from The Expendables 4 sees Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone teaming up for a bar brawl. Directed by Scott Waugh, the upcoming installment in the action franchise sees the titular mercenary team embark on a mission to prevent World War 3. Statham returns as Lee Christmas for a more prominent role this time around, with the film set to be Stallone’s last as Barney Ross.

Now, ahead of The Expendables 4’s release date, Lionsgate has released a new clip from the movie, showing Statham and Stallone dealing with a bar-full of bruisers. Check out the new clip below:

The short video features Christmas squaring up against a large group of muscular guys, seemingly to defend Ross, and slipping on some brass knuckles as he does so.

Statham & Stallone’s Expendables 4 Dynamic Explained

All the previous Expendables movies have been ensemble pieces, but Stallone and Statham are largely the faces of the franchise. While Ross runs the titular team, Christmas serves as his second in command. That dynamic, however, is set to change in the upcoming sequel.

Stallone’s role in The Expendables 4 is set to be smaller than previous installments, with the actor previously revealing that “Statham is 80 percent” of the movie. The upcoming sequel will serve as Stallone’s last, and the actor’s comment suggests that Statham is being positioned as the new, sole franchise lead. Christmas, then, will seemingly take Ross’ place as the leader of the Expendables team.

This is reflected in the movie’s trailers, which feature Statham and the new cast members very prominently. While original cast members Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture are also returning, much of the film’s cast comprises new faces, including Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Andy Garcia, Iko Uwais, and 50 Cent. It remains to be seen how The Expendables 4 will handle Stallone’s departure, but groundwork is clearly being laid to potentially carry the franchise forward without him should the new movie be a hit.
