Action movie superstar Jason Statham is back to doing what he does best in the first trailer for The Beekeeper, which finds The Stath under the direction of End of Watch and Fury filmmaker David Ayer. Coming courtesy of MGM, the first footage from The Beekeeper finds Statham punching and shooting his way through countless enemies as he enacts his quest for revenge after being outed as a former agent for an organization known as the Beekeepers. Check out the action-packed first trailer for The Beekeeper below:
Alongside the first footage from the action movie, an official synopsis for The Beekeeper has also now been unveiled.
“In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.””
“Expose the corruption. Protect the hive,” reads the movie’s tagline, with The Beekeeper having been directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer. Led by Jason Statham, the rest of the cast includes Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, with Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.
The Beekeeper Is Steeped in the Mythology of Beekeeping
Until now, The Beekeeper has been a pretty mysterious action movie project, with earlier reports describing the movie as a “fast-paced action-thriller, which is steeped in the mythology of beekeeping.” Something which could end up getting lost among all the dispatching of bad guys…
“Having collaborated with Jason on Wrath Of Man and Operation Fortune, and with David on Fury, we are fortunate to partner with these masters of the new action genre to bring Kurt’s brilliant script to the first installment of this franchise,” Miramax CEO Bill Block said in a statement when the project was announced. “The Bee Keeper explores universal themes with an unconventional story that will have fans sitting on the edge of their seats.”
Jason Statham remains one of the most sought-after action stars in the business, with the actor having recently returned to do battle with a giant shark in Meg 2: The Trench. The actor is currently in charge of The Expendables in the fourth outing, Expend4bles, which finds him teaming up with the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, and more.
The fourth Expendables movie sees the titular team once again standing up as the world’s last line of defense, who are called upon when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning as the gang go up against The Raid star Iko Uwais. Sadly, it seems that The Expendables franchise has run out of steam, with Expend4bles unable to win against critics, leading to a cold box office reception.
The Beekeeper is now scheduled to hit theaters on January 12, 2024.
