NBA legend and Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan went viral recently as he showed some raw emotions while giving back to North Carolina.
Earlier in the week, His Airness attended the opening of his Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in Wilmington, North Carolina. He also took some time to share a message to the crowd, highlighting that the moment is special for him since it is where he came from.
During his speech, however, Jordan couldn’t help but become emotional. He eventually shed some tears as he was finally able to give back to the place he calls home.
“It’s good to be home, first and foremost. That’s what this clinic is about, when the families are not able to support, we’re there to support. Doesn’t have any money, doesn’t matter, we’re going to do whatever we can to support you because that’s what happened to me,” Jordan said as he was trying to hold back his tears.
“We did it in Charlotte and now we’re going to do it here in Wilmington, which makes it even more special because this is where I came from. And no matter how you see Michael Jordan, this is where I started, this is where I’m always going to be a part of.”
As the video of Michael Jordan tearing up goes viral, fans were quick to praise him for his work in helping the community.
“Very rare that MJ would allow press around Generally when he does charitable things he does it is silence,” a fan commented on the video of the former Charlotte Hornets owner. Another one shared, “He is working at being a good human.”
Many others called him the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), while some noted that there’s not a lot of media coverage for the event, indicating that MJ wanted to work behind the scenes.
Back in 2021, Jordan made a $10 million donation to Novant Health Foundation in order to open two clinics in Wilmington. Now that one is open, another is underway.
True enough, it’s a major milestone for Michael Jordan as he continues to assist his hometown.
