Is Bol Bol really going to the Golden State Warriors? Exploring the rumors after several social media posts linked the two together.
While he may not be one of the NBA’s superstars, Bol Bol is perhaps one of the most beloved players in the league today. The 7ft 2in fan favorite is of course the son of NBA legend Manute Bol, one of the tallest players in NBA history.
23-year-old Bol played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks, and was selected 44th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat before being trade to the Denver Nuggets on draft day. After minimal game time, he was traded to the Boston Celtics in January 2022 and then to the Magic the following month. He didn’t play in his first year with the Magic because of a foot injury but featured more regularly last season.
Bol Bol officially waived by Magic
However, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced recently that the Orlando Magic had waived Bol Bol. The towering forward-center appeared in 70 games with 33 starts last season in his first full year in Orlando.
Bol had career highs of 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.0 assists and 21.5 minutes per game while shooting 54.6 percent from the field.
However, he fell out of the rotation during the second half of the season but did return towards the end of the year.
Is Bol Bol really going to the Golden State Warriors?
There’s no denying Bol is incredible talented and a uniquely skilled player. After news of him being waived broke, speculation immediately intensified about where he could end up.
Fans online immediately started linking Bol Bol with the Golden State Warriors. One prominent Warriors fan account tweeted: ‘The Golden State Warriors are among the teams forward Bol Bol will consider upon clearing waivers. Strong mutual interest’:
Elsewhere, an NBA parody account of The NBA Central tweeted: ‘Golden State Warriors are pursuing Bol Bol, per @SharmsCharania’
However, these reports are somewhat premature and aren’t correct at the time of writing. No credible source has reported that the Golden State Warriors are legitimately interested in Bol Bol. Instead, these are just rumors that’s where he could end up.
So no, as things stand Bol Bol isn’t going to the Warriors.
However it would make a lot of sense
Nevertheless, the rumors may be on to something as Bol could make a lot of sense in Golden State.
The Dubs are in need of a big man to back up Kevon Looney after parting ways with James Wiseman recently. Golden State desperately needs some size in its frontcourt, as nobody on their roster is currently over 6ft 9in.
Draymond Green also isn’t getting any younger and Bol could provide the team with some solid length. He’s also able to hit threes with relative consistency, which obviously suits their style of play.
Ultimately it remains to be seen where he ends up but Bol surely won’t have a shortage of interested parties.
