The Beekeeper (R, 105 minutes) – is about a select crew of super agents called beekeepers, whose missions is to keep the government safe and functioning well. The script informs the audience that in a beehive, among the specialized bee workers, there is even a queen-killer bee that is used if the queen bee fails to produce good sons.
Jason Statham plays a retired beekeeper who actually tends to real beehives. When his landlord, Phylicia Rashad, is bilked of all her money by a computer scam, she commits suicide. Her daughter, played by Emmy Raver-Lampman, is an FBI agent who informs Statham that there is a criminal group of hackers who have robbed her mom. Statham goes after the scammers and burns down their office building. As Statham pursues the people behind the scammers, he encounters more and more resistance. Statham is a one man army who takes on many armed personnel trying to stop him.
The fun part of the movie is watching how one man can defeat multiple attackers. As Statham closes in on the culprit behind the operation, he learns that the man is the son of the female president of the USA. The plot thickens, making the climax complicated indeed. The best part of the script is the simple theme of justice being more important than the law. Watching Statham in action makes seeing this movie worth a three potato entertainment rating.
