Jason Statham Hints to the “Mythology” of His Upcoming Action Film and Expresses His Desire to Do a Sequel

The Beekeeper star Jason Statham teases his action-packed next film, saying already that he wants to make a sequel. The Beekeeper is an upcoming action film from Suicide Squad director David Ayer, whose plot centers around a man who seeks vengeance after it is revealed that he is a former operative of an organization called “Beekeepers.” The Beekeeper is set for release on January 12, 2024.

Prior to the film’s release, Statham is already hyping up The Beekeeper and speaking about his sequel hopes. Per Variety, the actor claimed that the film “has a mythology of the ‘beekeeping’ world.” This world is something that the film team could “dive into” should they be “fortunate enough to make a sequel.” Check out the full quote from Statham below:

The whole movie escalates in terms of the action. And it goes through an incredible, great crescendo. The whole world [of the film] has a mythology of the ‘beekeeping’ world. If we were fortunate enough to make a sequel, we have a whole world that we can dive into.

What To Expect from The Beekeeper

In addition to Statham, The Beekeeper stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jeremy Irons, and Josh Hutcherson. These actors will play a variety of special agents and Beekeepers. The film is written by notable action film writer Kurt Wimmer, whose previous screenplays include Expend4bles, Point Break, and Total Recall.

The Beekeeper trailer has promised an action-packed film replete with explosions, gunfights, and more. Starting with a more placid scene of Statham’s Adam Clay engaging in actual beekeeping duties, the trailer gradually evolves into action. The trailer introduces the “mythology” of the Beekeepers crime ring, where Statham must protect the “hive” in his Beekeeper role.

After the high hopes this trailer established, Statham’s most recent quote about The Beekeeper makes the film all the more exciting. With the serene start, as bees buzz around in a field, it makes sense that The Beekeeper will go through a “great crescendo” as the “whole movie escalates in terms of action.” The film, according to Statham, seems like it will mimic the structure of the trailer itself. Should this format pan out for Ayer, Statham, and the rest of The Beekeeper team, Statham may just get The Beekeeper sequel about which he seems so hopeful.
