Jason Statham has a knack for starring in action movies throughout his Hollywood career. With several iconic movies to his name like The Expendables franchise, The Transporter, and, Fast & Furious, Statham has solidified himself as an action star.
Well, not every movie of the actor is successful. This was proven in 2023 when Statham starred in director Ben Wheatley’s film Meg 2: The Trench. Being one of the worst movies of 2023, Jason Statham earned quite a lot of money for his role and we are here to find out how much.
How Much Did Jason Statham Earn From One of 2023’s Worst Movies?
Starring in the 2023 film, Jason Statham reprised his role as Jonas Taylor in Meg 2: The Trench. With a similar story to that of the first film, the lead actors are once again faced with the wrath of prehistoric sharks, and this time, with a malevolent mining operation in the mix.
Meg 2: The Trench was a massive failure as the film barely managed to earn a total of $395 million at the global box office. Although the number is impressive, the ratings of the film, however, are not that great. With a rating of 5/10 on IMDB and a meager low of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film received an award nomination.
Well, this isn’t an ordinary award since Meg 2: The Trench was nominated for a Razzie Award in the category of “Worst Picture” while Jason Statham earned a Razzie nomination for “Worst Actor”. So how much did this alleged “Worst Actor” earn for his role in the movie?
Sources indicate (via ScreenRant) that Statham received a paycheck of somewhere around $20-25 million for the lead role. The report by ScreenRant further alleged that the actor earned $16 million for the first movie and so Statham has indeed made a remarkable jump between the two movies.
Jason Statham Reveals A Director’s Worst Nightmare!
From giving Cillian Murphy a run for his money in Peaky Blinders to working alongside an ensemble cast in The Fate of the Furious, Jason Statham has had a plethora of experience in Hollywood. The actor revealed in an interview with USA Today that working on the sets of the 2017 film was a tough job.
“We had two babies and we did the best we could to keep (them) happy. It’s a director’s nightmare. You never know what they are going to come up with. But when the baby comes up with gold, it just brings the house down.”
Although the actor had a bad choice for starring in Meg 2: The Trench, Jason Statham quickly made up for the film by starring in David Ayer’s The Beekeeper. Being an action/thriller film, The Beekeeper has received rave reviews and is currently screening in theaters in the U.S.
