Jennifer Brady, 28, declared Serena Williams the greatest of all-time in women’s tennis and admitted she would love to have played against prime Serena. Brady, the 2021 Australian Open runner-up, never got a chance to play against former 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams.
Through Redditt in a Q&A session hosted by the US Open, a fan asked Brady: “If you could pick one retired player to play against in their prime, who would it be and why?” Brady responded: “Serena Williams because she was so dominant and I want to know what that level was like to play against.”
Brady: Williams, Djokovic are the GOATs
After revealing she would love to play prime Williams, Brady also named the American tennis icon and Novak Djokovic as the tennis GOATs. “Who is the GOAT and why in your opinion? Both for men’s and women’s side,” a fan asked Brady.
Brady answered: “Serena and Novak.” After being out for two years due to knee surgery, Brady returned to pro tennis last month. During a Q&A session, another fan wanted to know how Brady feels now compared to 2021 January when she made the 2021 Australian Open final: “How do you compare your level right now vs Jan 2021? You looked great against Rybakina in Canada.
Definitely one of the strongest performances I’ve seen after an injury comeback.” Brady responded to the question: “Getting there… Day by day.”Brady, a former world 13, made the US Open semifinal in 2020. Back then, Brady’s run ended with a defeat to Naomi Osaka.
After missing the US Open in 2021 and 2022, Brady is set to compete again on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows. In the US Open first round, Brady will be clashing against a qualifier. It remains to be seen how well can Brady do in her return to the US Open.
