While Jordan Poole won a championship with the Golden State Warriors, which is a height the Washington Wizards are seemingly very far from at this point, his new team does have something his old team did not have. Speaking with reporters, Poole expressed his excitement to play with Daniel Gafford, since he has never played with a real lob threat before:
This is one big difference between the Warriors and Wizards, because while Golden State has the much better overall roster, they don’t have much athleticism. Between Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, neither of Golden State’s bigs play much above the rim. Golden State’s best athlete is Gary Payton II, who can certainly go get a lob, but often isn’t playing near the basket to have one thrown his way.
A solid playmaker for his age, Poole is continuing to grow in his passing ability, and will get a lot of crucial reps this season as a lead guard. The Wizards are very excited to have Poole, and should give him plenty of chances to develop this season into the player they know he can be.
Having already accomplished a lot in his career, Poole is still very young. Looking to take that next step this season, Poole has a few solid pieces around him that should compliment his game pretty well – including a lob threat in Gafford.
