The Golden State Warriors have struggled to find their footing this season. Draymond Green is unable to keep himself out of trouble and fans have started to question if the Warriors did, in fact, make the right decision by trading Jordan Poole instead of Green. Having played in the NBA for 20 seasons, Jamal Crawford believes that the person behind the Jordan Poole trade was in fact Stephen Curry.
While Poole himself has also struggled in Washington so far this season, if he were on the Warriors, he could have helped the team. But why didn’t the Warriors keep him? The former Clippers star revealed his reasoning.
“My take on that is this: It came down to Draymond or Jordan. And not because of the fight; it came down to who fit better with Steph. At the end of the day, Steph needs Jordan, but he really needs Draymond…His contract is essentially replaced his. But it was about to me, and I don’t have no inside info, but to me, it was who fit better with Steph over the next four years,” said the 3x Sixth Man of the Year.
Jamal Crawford played for nine different teams in the two decades he was in the NBA. He knows better than most what teams are thinking when they decide to keep or trade a player. So according to him, the Warriors prioritized keeping Green over Poole, even if Poole was able to give more production on the floor, because Green was better suited to share the court with Stephen Curry.
At the end of the day, the Warriors have a chance as long as Stephen Curry is on the court. So the best option for the team is to maximize his potential by surrounding him with pieces that can elevate his play. Green was the right player for that, as he has already done it for years now.
Stephen Curry is patiently waiting for Draymond Green’s return
The Warriors have not talked much about Green since his indefinite suspension. While the Warriors are trying to stay afloat without the heart of their team, Stephen Curry recently opened up about the Green situation.
Curry revealed that the team is currently giving Green the space that he needs to get himself back on track. As Curry has already expressed his concerns regarding the team not being its best self currently, it is apparent why Green is vital for the team and why Curry would be hoping for him to return to the lineup soon.
