While there have been several reports about the stalled contract talks between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors, little has been said publicly by either side. Speaking with reporters at Friday morning’s shootaround in Sacramento, Thompson broke his silence on the situation.
“I don’t know, I mean yeah I’m just focused on on the daily dedication it takes to do this job,” Thompson said when asked if talks between him and the Warriors are tabled with the season starting. “I’m not really worried about an extension right now. That will play itself out.”
When asked if the start of the season was an artificial deadline for him, Thompson said, “I just don’t wanna think about it. I don’t like thinking about it. Yeah, I don’t like thinking about it.”
Thompson admitted he is going to savor this season even more understanding nothing is guaranteed beyond this year, emphasizing how he was one of the core pieces in making the Warriors brand synonymous with success.
The good news for all parties, is that mutual interest exists between Thompson and the Warriors on getting a deal done. While they remain apart on years and money, both sides would like to extend this partnership throughout the remainder of Thompson’s career.
For now those talks are stalled, but Thompson is not worried about it.
