Levon’s Trade is the latest action project that will see renowned actor Jason Statham take on the titular role. Widely known for his work within the action genre, Statham-led films have, more often than not, performed quite well at the box office. The Meg franchise, in which Statham takes on the role of Jonas Taylor, has accumulated nearly $1 billion worldwide.
For fans of action movies, a Statham-led film becomes a must-see. However, the other names that back Levon’s Trade have the anticipation of action-obsessed fans steadily rising. The film will be directed by David Ayer and carry a screenplay penned by the legendary Sylvester Stallone. Ayer and Jason Statham have already teamed up for The Beekeeper, which will be released on January 12, 2024. The two seem to have hit it off quite well, as Levon’s Trade follows hot on The Beekeeper’s trail. With noteworthy names and a promise to deliver a fast-paced, intense watch, here’s why we think Statham’s latest project might be a hit among viewers.
A Tried and Tested Action-Packed Plot
The storyline of Levon’s Trade promises to deliver the type of action Jason Statham is well known for. The trope, despite being utilized in multiple films in various ways, is still loved by audiences and thus able to attract significant viewership. The script for the film will be adapted from a novel of the same name authored by Chuck Dixon. The novel is the first of the Levon Cade series, which comprises eleven books in total. The existence of enough and more source material means that Levon’s Trade may be followed by sequels, provided the film performs well at the box office.
The plot of Levon’s Trade bears some similarities to The Beekeeper. Similarly to how Statham is a retired operative in The Beekeeper, looking to live a simple life, Levon’s Trade has Jason Statham in the role of Levon Cade, an ex-black ops agent who now works in construction and wants to lead a quiet life while being a good father to his daughter. However, when his boss’s teenage daughter disappears, Cade is dragged back into a life of action, where he’s required to put his black ops skills to use again. Cade then goes on to uncover a criminal conspiracy that has the potential to wreak havoc on his quiet way of life.
A Veteran-in-Action-Roles Leading Man
Jason Statham is a name synonymous with adrenaline-inducing, thrilling action films. The actor has many successful movies and franchises under his belt. He is widely known for his performances as Frank Martin in the Transporter franchise and Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious films.
Levon’s Trade will also not be the first time that Statham takes on the titular role in a project written by Stallone. Statham previously played a retired DEA agent on a mission to protect his daughter and their home in the Stallone-written 2013 film Homefront. Stallone and Statham have also worked side by side as actors in The Expendables franchise.
With commendable experience in action roles and the loyal following that the actor has garnered over the years, Jason Statham’s contribution to Levon’s Trade will, no doubt, propel the film toward becoming a box-office success. After all, it is yet another chance for Statham to do what he does best.
Names Behind the Project
The combination of talent behind the project is another reason why the project may turn out to be a hit. With Jason Statham in the lead role, Ayer will be directing from a script penned by Sylvester Stallone. Although taking the writer’s seat for Levon’s Trade, Stallone himself is no stranger to starring in action roles, with the actor being renowned for his performances in films including Rocky, Rambo, and the Expendables films. Stallone’s script for Levon’s Trade is his first since he penned the screenplay for Rambo: Last Blood (2019) and Creed II (2018).
With Ayer having works such as Suicide Squad, Fury, and The Fast and the Furious under his belt, his teaming up with producer Bill Block, former CEO of Miramax, adds to the noteworthy combination of talent behind Levon’s Trade. Ayer is accustomed to working alongside Block, with the duo having worked on projects such as Fury and, more recently, The Beekeeper. Referring to the names behind Levon’s Trade as “the dream team,” Block stated:
“I am thrilled to be reuniting with some of my most talented and longstanding partners on Levon’s Trade. I first worked with David Ayer on Fury and it was immediately clear that he is a director at the very top of his game. Jason and I have worked together on a number of films, and most recently the three of us collaborated on The Beekeeper. Levon’s Trade is going to be another spectacular action movie and I’m confident we’ve assembled the dream team to bring the first novel in this celebrated series to the big screen.”
The release of Levon’s Trade is still quite some time away. A date for the film’s release has not been confirmed at the time of writing, and production has not yet commenced. However, it has been reported that filming for Levon’s Trade is set to begin in London in March 2024. Statham’s next film, The Beekeeper, can be seen in theaters on January 12, 2024, with a trailer available below.
