When it comes to gear, you’ll typically find that most college golf teams get assigned a standard set of polos, shoes and golf bags where the only elements distinguishing it from the next team are a change of logo and colors. Not so if you’re a member of the University of North Carolina men’s golf team. Michael Jordan famously played on UNC’s basketball team between 1981-1984, but the public institution’s most famous alumnus is also obsessed with golf.
Lucky for the UNC men’s golf team, because the program just received a package that would make any current or former college golfer jealous. The crown jewel is of course the Air Jordan 9 Golf, a silhouette that has received a ton of attention lately. Most recently, Jordan Brand teamed up with artist Happy Life Wood for a design inspired by vintage golf clubs. This iteration features the Tarheels’ famous Carolina blue across the midsoles and sockliners.
Next up is the stand bag, a staple for any competitive player. Complete with Jordan branding on the towel holder and the number 23 on the padded back strap, the predominantly blue bag is subtly detailed with UNC argyle. Finally, the cabretta leather gloves are ready for a matching moment with a more prominent usage of the aforementioned argyle, which caught on at the university thanks to fashion designer Alexander Julian in the early 1990s.
Murmurings suggest the Air Jordan 9 G “UNC” could get a general release, so keep an eye out for updates.
