Michael Jordan has done it again – adding the world’s fastest and most powerful car to his enviable fleet.
He has splashed $3.5 million – mere small change from his $2 billion fortune – on the car.
And the staggering scale of his fortune left the internet in awe.
He recently became the first professional athlete to enter the Forbes 400 list after selling his shares in the Charlotte Hornets.
So, when he can afford almost any car in the world, what car did he treat himself to?
Claiming to be the “the world’s fastest and most powerful convertible”, it’s the Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster.
With a top speed of 485 km/h (300 mph), it’s just the thing for the greatest NBA player of all time who strives to be the best.
“Today was a special day,” the Hennessey Performance Instagram account said.
The caption was shared beneath a photo of company CEO John Hennessey alongside Michael Jordan and his new ride.
They are standing outside of the Hall of Famer’s private golf club in Florida, Grove XXIII.
“Such an honor to build a special Venom F5 for a special friend.”
While the post is focused around the car, the photo doesn’t reveal much.
Only a fraction of its glossy carbon-fiber body is visible, detailed with yellow pinstripes.
The Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster made its debut around two years ago.
Production was set in motion in late 2022.
Only 24 of the coupe were made – making it even more lusted after than the convertible.
And when production is limited – prices go wild.
The Venom F5 Roadster prices begin at $3 million, while the coupe kicks off at $2.1 million.
Let’s unpack the hefty price tag.
The Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster holds a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 engine.
It packs 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque, coursing through a seven-speed, single-clutch semi-automatic transmission.
The roadster has many similarities to the coupe at the front of the car.
However, the differences begin in the cabin.
There is a removable carbon-fiber roof panel, weighing just 18 pounds (8 kg).
The lack of a roof increases its curb weight very slightly to 3,100 pounds (1,406 kg)
The regular F5 sits at 2,998 pounds (1,359 kg).
Innovative tempered glass, able to withstand temperature over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, is fitted to the back of the vehicle.
That allows for a glimpse of the powerful engine that sits behind the passenger compartment.
“We created the Venom F5 to be the ultimate expression of a hypercar,” Hennessey said on the car’s release.
“Our 1,817 bhp ‘Fury’ engine screams behind the exposed cockpit, with its roar unobstructed by a roof — it is an unmatched automotive experience.”
History-making athlete, Jordan, didn’t only make his money from the game.
In fact, he has amassed a fortune since he retired from basketball over 20 years ago.
Last year, Michael Jordan made $256 million in his licensing deal with Nike, with his legendary Jordan Brand generating $5.1 billion.
Alongside his golf course and yacht, his passion for the road also drove him to co-own the 23XI NASCAR team.
