The next collaboration between action star Jason Statham and director David Ayer is set to be the film adaptation of the novel Levon’s Trade. The two struck action gold back in January when The Beekeeper hit theaters with a thematic vengeance and now, they are looking to strike it once again. Today brought the announcement that their next offering has added some serious firepower for the supporting cast, and we now know that David Harbour (Extraction) and Michael Peña (End of Watch, Narcos: Mexico) will be joining the production which sees action icon Sylvester Stallone penning the script based off the book.
Deadline brought the word today and also announced that Jason Flemyng (The Iron Mask) and Arianna Rivas (The Harvest) will also star in the hard-hitting action-thriller from Amazon MGM. Noemi Gonzalez, Emmett Scanlan, Eve Mauro, Maximilian Osinski, Kristina Poli, Andrej Kaminsky, and Isla Gie round out the rest of the cast.
The movie sees Statham starring as “Levon Cade (Statham), who left his “profession” behind him to go ‘straight’ and work in construction. He wants to live a simple life and be a good father to his daughter. But when his boss’s teenage daughter Jenny vanishes, he’s called upon to re-employ the skills that made him a legendary figure in the shadowy world of black ops. His hunt for the missing college student takes him deep into the heart of a sinister criminal conspiracy creating a chain reaction that will threaten his new way of life.” The movie is currently in production as we speak.
Statham and Ayer certainly work well together which was evident in The Beekeeper which is being touted as one of the best action films of the year. The film oozed a throwback, kick ass style old school vibe boasting some of the best and brutal action set pieces Statham has ever done. Here’s hoping that Levon’s Trade delivers more of the same and that Ayer and Statham continue to have a flourishing working relationship in the future.
Stallone wrote the script with revisions by Ayer himself from the novel written by comic author Chuck Dixon (Batman). This is the first in eleven books in the series so if it hits the action target with audiences, you can expect more adaptations in the future. Stallone also wrote the screenplay for Statham’s Homefront, and we all know that the two have starred together in the blockbuster Expendables franchise.
