Kevin Durant may not be a member of the Golden State Warriors anymore, but he’ll always be a two-time NBA Champion and NBA Finals MVP with the team. For that reason alone, he definitely deserves to have his jersey retired with the team – Durant agrees.
In an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape, Durant had a very candid conversation about the Warriors potentially retiring his jersey. The conversation sparked because Warriors owner Joe Lacob mentioned that he didn’t want anyone to wear the number 35 again.
“He should,” Durant said. “Look at the résumé. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? Do I want to be honored by a franchise I put work in for? Of course, I would love that. I had some great moments there. I built some solid relationships there. Yeah, man. Hell yeah, that would be sweet. I love that organization, man. I love my time there, seriously. Me leaving, people shouldn’t doubt that, because I left there.”
Kevin Durant might not be the most loved player in the NBA by fans, but if there’s one fanbase that should always show love for him, it’s Warriors fans. The franchise likely has two less championships if Durant never joins the team in 2016, and doesn’t have anywhere near the dominant image without him.
Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant all deserve their jerseys retired with the Golden State Warriors.
