This week, the Golden State Warriors began training camp, and they will play their first preseason game on Saturday evening when they host Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
Over the offseason, the team signed veteran Rodney McGruder, but Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports that he is in concussion protocol and will miss Saturday’s contest.
Via Slater: “Rodney McGruder is in concussion protocol and will miss the Warriors’ preseason opener against the Lakers tomorrow night, I’m told. McGruder is in a camp competition and has a real shot at an open roster spot.”
Last year, McGruder played for the Detroit Pistons and averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 40.8% from the field and 42.3% from the three-point range in 32 regular season games.
In addition to the Pistons, he has also played for the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers.
Over seven seasons in the NBA, McGruder has career averages of 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 42.0% from the field and 36.0% from the three-point range in 317 regular season games (he has also appeared in nine NBA playoff games).
As for the Warriors, they are coming off a year where they were the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 44-38 record.
They beat the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the NBA playoffs, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round in six games.
