It was announced by Anthony Slater of The Athletic that the Golden State Warriors will be without Steph Curry for Sunday night’s game vs. the Sacramento Kings. Curry will be joined by Chris Paul on the bench, as the veteran point guard will also sit out this contest.
As Slater added in his report, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had previously said Golden State’s veterans would likely miss at least one preseason game. For the Warriors, it makes sense to rest Curry and Paul on the same game, because those two need as many reps together as possible.
There will certainly be stretches of time when Curry and Paul have their minutes staggered to maximize lineup efficiency, but the two have played together a lot this preseason, with Paul getting the starting nod alongside Curry. It’s unclear if this will change once Draymond Green returns from injury, but as of right now things have gone well with Curry and Paul starting together.
The Warriors have a lot to figure out between now and the regular season, but it has been a productive training camp so far for them. Looking to win another championship with this core, the Warriors recognize they don’t have many more shots at a title, so they are approaching this season with that sense of urgency from day one.
