On August 24th, which is now widely recognized as Kobe Bryant or “Mamba” day, the Golden State Warriors honored the Los Angeles Lakers legend with a message from Steph Curry. The quote from Curry came from a 2020 interview with ESPN, when the superstar point guard said, “Watching [Kobe Bryant] play inspired me. It was a dream come true to get to the league and play against him.”
The Warriors shared that quote, along with a picture of Curry wearing Bryant’s jersey:
Several teams and players used 8/24 to celebrate the life and legacy of Kobe Bryant, who inspired so many people with his work on and off the court. Curry is one of several current NBA players who Bryant directly impacted, as the Lakers legend never allowed himself to forget the next generation. Alway willing to pour into those who looked up to him, Bryant worked directly with so many current NBA stars, who still credit him with the player they have become.
This was a nice gesture from the Warriors to re-share this message from Curry, which was originally shared by ESPN two weeks after Bryant passed away. Curry often speaks about the belief that Bryant had in him early in his career, and how much it still means to him knowing that one of his heroes saw greatness in him.
