The NBA moves through cycles. New stars arise as old ones begin to fade. Throughout his tenure with the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry has been the face of the Warriors organization and among the most prominent names in the league. Yet, sooner or later, Curry’s star will start to fade as time inevitably catches up with him.
During a recent appearance on the “Gils Arena Podcast,” Curry discussed which player is next up to be the featured face of the NBA. Luka Doncic is the player Curry anointed, noting how the Dallas Mavericks star is on the precipice of accomplishing amazing things.
“Luka is the guy that’s right on the precipice of accomplishing all those accolades,” Curry told Arenas. “What he’s all about as a player. That threshold of how you just crack through — I hope it’s not now — but when you play against him, you can feel it.”
Almost as soon as Doncic made the jump from Europe to the NBA, he became a rising star. Unlike most players in the league, Doncic doesn’t possess elite athleticism. Instead, he looks like a taller version of the average person — in terms of body composition.
Curry also noted how he’s hoping Doncic’s ascension isn’t complete for a couple more years, allowing the Warriors to have a few more runs at a championship before the core begins to consider retirement.
Nevertheless, Doncic is already a star in the NBA, and it’s only a matter of time before he takes the mantle from some of the league’s elder statesmen, and that includes Curry.
