Steve Kerr has responded to Shaquille O’Neal‘s claim that Steph Curry belongs in the conversation for the “greatest player of all time.” However, the Golden State Warriors head coach approached the discussion with some additional nuance, noting how the better discussion would center around Curry being the most skilled player of all time.
Kerr’s comments came during a recent interview on 97.5 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs” show. Kerr was asked about O’Neal’s recent comments, which led him to praise his take and shower his star guard. The show occurred after the Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in overtime on Tuesday (Dec. 19.)
“There’s all kinds of different ways of looking at who’s the best and all that, who’s the most talented,” Kerr said. “You can factor in size and length and athleticism, scoring inside, scoring (outside), whatever..I just look at Steph as the most skilled basketball player I’ve ever seen. There’s never been anybody in terms of their shooting and ball-handling ability and ability to shoot from the distances that he shoots from and the finishing in the lanes, the rhythm, the fluidity. I’ve never seen anybody as skilled with the ball as Steph Curry.”
Curry has long been seen as the greatest shooter in the history of the NBA. However, in recent months, he has begun to be recognized for the level of skill that he brings to the court and how he creates separation for himself off the dribble.
Curry, 35, has been enjoying an exceptional start to the season. He has continued to draw praise from around the league and is still capable of leading the Warriors to another championship. Kerr’s comments aren’t new or shocking, but the discussion surrounding Curry is certainly necessary, and he keeps proving why.
